  What is the JW story on baptisim?

  jesus was 29, john the baptist was the same age or a year older.

  all of the others i recall from the ot & nt were adults.

  They claim that all of their beliefs and actions are based on the scriptures, so how can they justify 9,10 year olds, or even early teens getting baptized? Jesus was 29, John the baptist was the same age or a year older. All of the others I recall from the OT & NT were adults. In my case I was at the ripe old age of 14 when I was baptized, at the age when I knew everything, or so I thought. All reasonable adults KNOW that children can not make decisions that will affect them for the rest of their lives. So why do dubs stand by and encourage, & even pressure their young ones to make this decision, especially when there are no scriptural grounds for doing such?

  Is the answer as simple as I think? Do they want to trap people while they are young, and for life? If that is the plan, it is obvously flawed as evidenced by the hundreds, even thousands of young adults fleeing from WTS as soon as they have the chance, and are logical enough to make such decisions.

  As I said, I think I know the answers to the questions that I am asking, I think that I just needed to vent.

  Disfellowshipping reasons

  i grew up as a dub, and i was taught that there weren't specific reasons why people got disfellowshipped.

  i was taught they didn't announce what the wrong was as they were df'd because they were 'unrepentant'.

  now i know the wts is full of **** and i see a few posts about tattoos and piercings etc being cause for df'ing.

  calanders have been shrunk to half {less room for hours} awake is now monthly, the watchtower has a "witness only" edition and now.....the bibles are soft cover like the "book of mormon".......less cash out i guess..

  On The Way Out - If you collect magazines in your trunk and later throw them away, make sure to count them as placements on your monthly service report, otherwise service overseer hounder will see a huge number on order and few placements. Any hounder worth his weight would jump on that.

  You can get away with anything except apostacy (saying ANYTHING negative about WTBTS) if you say the right things or know the right people. I know of a MS (unmarried) who fornicated with a married sister, she had his child, and he never got any public reproof, restrictions, nothing. I'm sure it helped tremendously that his father was PO. If you listen to JW conversations, you can descern what the elders want to hear in JC meetings. Alot of times they proclaim much of it from the platform;show humility like King David in the Psalms, beg for forgiveness, you are sorry for your mistake, you don't want to bring reproach on Jah's name, blah, blah, blah. You can fool them once you know their game, unless one or more of them have it out for you. In that case, whatever you say, you are SCREWED! So it really doesn't matter what you did or what you say, if they want you out, you are out.

  i used to post here a while back as 2112 and i am posting again.

  i have continued to read but have just been too busy to post.. anyhow, over to past few years my jw wife has aced if the elders could "talk" to me.

  i have always said no, only because i didn't want to bother.

  I agree with most of the advise you have been given. It will be like chasing your own tail, you may get a little verbal exercise, but to no benefit. The elders will not answer your questions/concerns. They will double talk and change the subject continually when they feel threatened or do not know how to answer. You will not change their minds, they have drank the koolaide for far too long to think rationally and for themselves. If you do decide to go through with your plan, make sure to let us know how it turns out.

  How many people in prison are JW's?

  i've been reading the topic about how garrido met his wife while in prison, and the discussion about how prison inmates are preached to by jw's.. has anyone done any research into how many people claiming to be jw's there are in prison?

  in the uk it should be quite easy to find out because of the freedom of information act.

  it could even be broken down to how many are in dispersal prisons (and so for much more serious offences), and how many are covered by rule 43 (segregated for their own protection), and how this measures as a total of the prison population.. the last time i looked it up, there was 1 jw to approx 300 people in the uk.

  Out at Last!

  I know of at least 12 witnesses, or children of witnesses that never were baptized, but had attended all of their lives who are in prison. Most, if not all are 20 - 30 years old and were put away for drugs, or theft charges to feed their drug addiction. My ex wife's son is locked up right now for these very same offenses.

  i don't eat...

  as i tuck into some very nice birthday cake today i'm reminded at my many attempts at entertaining jw's over the years.

  eventualy i stopped because whenever i invited someone i got told " i don't eat..." wheat, dairy, sugar, etc.

  it made catering almost impossible and that was the rare poliet ones.

  Out at Last!

  In my experience the CO's and DO's were the worst. Can't eat this, wife doesn't like that, can't stay in a house with a cat, dog, bird, dust, even allergect to new carpet. They used to stay in my home every 2nd or third visit, but after dealing with them over a period of years, I got to the point that they could stay in a hotel, that way when they handed over their list of complaints, at least they had a manager they could complain to. And he (manager) would have to at least act like he cared.

  "Pioneer Syndrome" - Pioneers from the 1990's are getting very sick in 2009! Theories?

  just heard sister g______ is very ill and not looking good at all.

  shes in her 40's and looks like an old lady!

  very tired she can barely manage to work a day or two because she has to...i myself crashed with glanduar fever and was tired for 4 years...still others have developed "pioneer syndrome" tired, always ill with no cure, increased need for sleep.

  What has the AWAKE had to say in the past few years? My ex-wife is/was a pioneer and she, along with 20% of the sisters in the cong self diagnosed themselves with chronic fatigue, lupos, and fibromialgia (spelling?) after it was mentioned in the awake mag around the mid 90's.

  my mom is pretty cool.

  81 years old and still going fairly strong.

  my older sister was the first one to leave the dubs in our 3rd gen jw family.

  Out at Last!

  I haven't spoken to my mother for about a month, she called because she needed me to do something for her. That is the only real reason that she had called in the last year, because at that time she was questioning me about why I was not going to meetings and half of my answers to her sounded like I was an APOSTATE! Yes, I was out, and trying to get her to think for herself for the first time in 32 years.

  The Borg have her so well programmed that she would rather blindly obey a group of old delusional men that she doesn't even know, rather than have a natural, loving relationship with her 2 children. I haven't tried to talk "the truth" with her since, fearing she would turn me in for APOSTACY. My sister has been DF'ed for 20 yrs, I just kind of walked away in July of 06. The elders know where I am, but as of yet, have not contacted me.
